Ecolens – Branding and Website design

We are excited to introduce Ecolens, a new community storytelling platform from the BC Centre for Disease Control, with Branding and Website Design by Straydog. People living in BC can now share personal stories about how climate change is impacting their health and well-being on the Ecolens website.

Ecolens is a safe and compassionate space for BC residents to share their personal experiences of climate change. It’s a place to connect through our stories, photos, and creative expressions, helping us to understand the deep impacts of climate change on our health and well-being. By sharing our diverse perspectives, we can build empathy, solidarity, and hope. This isn’t just about data; it’s about building resilient communities by witnessing and validating each other’s experiences.

The Branding and Logo Design

In early 2025, Straydog was approached by the BC Centre for Disease Control to help them realize their goal of creating a brand and website for Ecolens. As part of BCCDC’s Climate Preparedness and Adaptation Strategy, the ‘EcoLens: Snapshots of Our Climate Story’ purpose is to collect qualitative data on health impacts of climate change among resident of British Columbia.

In conjunction with the Team @ BCCDC, Straydog partnered with a local BC Indigenous artist, Jamin Zuroski for the logo design for Ecolens. The results is an beautiful icon, representing an eye, feathers and leaves, which represents a human-centred and connected approach to building BC’s climate story. The typography is simple and bold, with rounded letters that mimic the circles in the logo. The colours are tranquil and nature-based.

The Website Design

Honestly, designing the Ecolens.ca website this was one of Straydog’s most enjoyable website design projects. Our Digital strategists and website design team went to work with the idea in mind, that the new website must be all these factors in order for the Ecolens vision to succeed: beautiful, inspirational, highly engaging, functional and simple. Not an easy task, but we think we achieved all of these and more. The site is very easy to navigate, not text heavy whatsoever (let the pictures tell the story for the most party), and the Share Your Story feature takes users through a simple and quick process where they upload their story content and image(s).

Built in WordPress, the site is easy to manage for the client…always a big requirement from website owners, and we ensure this with all our website builds.
